Nerdy Dancer

"My Life is a Rollercoaster" …is an understatement

Welcome to my… (NO NO, too formal), Hey y’all… (OMG, Living in the south for this long has made me talk like them!!!! ahhh!!!!) (I know!) HEY GUYS, GUESS WHAT? KEEP ON READING! (and yes I did just steal a quote from the man himself, George Carlin.) February 11, 2010

My name is Catherine and I am a highschooler at a governors school (sorry too many creepers, not telling you which one or where), but the main point that I am making is that I go to an elite high school where all my classes are honors or AP, so my life is stressful. On top of that I dance about 10 hrs a week between ballet, lyrical, pointe, jazz, tap, hip-hop, character, assitant teaching, and extra rehersals. I wrote this blog because I am currently a Freshman and I am trying to keep my GPA up (currently it is a 3.8 which is unacceptable in my terms) and also trying to balance that with all the dancing I do.

My day goes a little like this: I get up at 5 AM (i know i am crazy, but hey we all have our weird morning schedules. Don’t curse my name just because u can’t physically get out of bed till 7:30!). Then I have my morning routine: shower, breakfast/TV, any extra studying, get dressed, do make up, do hair, print anything if necessary, pack my back pack, go downstairs, make coffee, fill my liter waterbottle full of ice and water, take the dogs out, take any medicine (like advil, cold medicine, or claritin. I am usually down with something whether it be a cold or I hurt my back in dance), and then I am out the door! (Sorry to be so descriptive, but when I say I get up at 5 in the morning, people usually ask what the hell I do for 2 1/2 hours).

Then of course I go to school. My school, everyone is a nerd, everyone is extremely talented in one thing or another (we have a lot of art, theater, and music kids), and everyone is genuinly nice. We are a very small school, around 700 kids, and we come from 12 different counties. Gum, cell phones, and ipod are widely tolerated, we have automatic toilets, and we are two blocks from starbucks! Jealous? Well you won’t be when you see the work load! 4 hrs a day of homework is considered a blessing and at least 12-14 hrs on the weekends.

It takes me about an hour to get home because I have to take two buses. Then I let my dogs out again, get something to eat, and then I quickly start my homework which I work on till 6:30 (only monday-wednesday) when i get dressed for dance. (Thursday’s i have class at 6-7, and Friday is my day off).

I get home around 9:20 ish where I take a shower, eat, watch like 20 minutes of TV, do any last minute homework, and try to be in bed no later than 10:30 or 11:00.

Saturdays is a whole different story, but basically dance class from 11-12, an hour for lunch, 1-2 is rehersal, then 2-3 is another class that I help out with sometimes afterwards. And then the rest of the day is homework until night time when I go to the movies and truly the only few hours I have a week to be a regular teenager!

So, crazy you ask? Did her parents make her? Actually at my school this is common, a lot of students (even at regular public schools) are packed crazy with school, extra curriculars, and even community service (which I do during the summer because I have no time during the school year!) I love having a crazy schedule but I am also the most emotional anxious person that gets stressed about everything! Without stress in my life and those little mini heart attacks I wouldn’t be able to do half the stuff I do. My crazy OCD perfectionist stressing-all-the-time personality is my motivation.

…And this is what I wrote my blog about
